Links Opening In New Windows

Many of the items on this blog open in new windows so I was very interested to come across a post by Darren Rowse related to this topic, “Should Links from Your Blog Open in a New Window?” . When asked this question by one of his readers, (read the original post),
Darren compiled a survey with the results posted later. According to
his results, 54% of his readers preferred to have new windows opened.
That was a relief for me to read.I also came upon a post “Don’t Force New Windows On Your Visitors” by Steven Bradley at this site, YellowHouseHosting that shares a different opinion.

According to Bradley, “Forcing your visitors to do something is
never a good idea. We’re living in the age of respecting your visitors
and being transparent to them. Forcing people is never a good way to
earn their trust.”

After reading the post about forcing windows on your visitors, I
have to admit that the points highlighted gave me something else to
re-think.
