"It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power."
~ Alan Cohen What’s been on Your mind lately?
No, really. What have you been thinking about? Stop for a minute and examine the last two or three weeks of your life. Consider how you spent your think time last week, or perhaps even earlier today.
Has any of the stuff you thought about, or tried to avoid, shown up for you in your life? Thoughts are things I consider to be bits of fluid energy, transferred endlessly across the universe from one receptive mind to another.
I for one truly believe that what you think about, you ultimately bring about even if it’s not to your benefit. That’s probably why I have long been a student of the laws of the universe. I love reading positive affirmations and used to subscribe to W.Clement Stone’s "Success" magazine for years.
You’ll find many of my all time favorite "written mentors" listed in the Success Resource here. Don’t believe thoughts are things? Consider this simplified example: How many people do you know, including possibly yourself, who keep attracting the wrong, absolutely, positively wrong man, woman, relationship or situations into their lives? What type of energy is being put out?
It’s the same way with success, wealth, bills and any number of things we face in our daily lives. If constantly worrying and stressing over how to pay the bills, what aches and pains you have, when the sky will be falling and all the other things a stressed out mind can cook up, guess what we’re more likely to attract. Absolutely more of the same. Stop The Madness! Quit worrying about what could negatively happen. Switch those thoughts around with these quick tips and motivators:
Monitor your thoughts for a bit and mentally zap anything negative that tries to hide in them in your best Battlestar Galactica imitation.
Something as simple as reading a good book, or listening to soothing tapes can make a dramatic difference. Can’t think of anything soothing? Here are a few you might like to try. Let me know what you think of them.
Create a "dreams" list of some of the good things you want to attract into your life, complete with photos.
Begin to think about all the things you are thankful for in life. Acknowledge them.
Make a commitment to yourself to improve the quality of your thoughts, actions and your words in your interactions with others, and how you "mentally talk" to yourself.
Celebrate yourself for every success you have. When you achieve one of your goals, list in in your success journal and begin immediately striving to achieve another one.

It’s not what’s happening to you now or what has happened in your past that determines who you become. Rather it’s your decisions about what to focus on, what things mean to you, and what you’re going to do about them that will determine your ultimate destiny. ~Anthony Robbins
How often do you work on a goal and find yourself getting side-tracked? It could be a new television show, the weather outside, a new book you just have to read or chatting with friends for hours. Bye-bye goal right? At the end of the day you’re left wondering where all the time went, when in truth, you gave it away to other things.
That’s why I say success requires activity. It takes disciplined effort to corral our thoughts. They’re often like errant children wanting to run off in all directions at the same time. In fact, Napolean Hill once stated, "Fill your mind with purposeful thoughts and take action on them!" That’s the surest way to success.
Think about how much energy you spend to attract a certain individual, obtain tickets for the Playoffs, for the Superbowl or to sit in the front row of a concert. Do you apply that same or greater amount of energy and determination towards being successful?
A tip I picked up is to get a clear photo of whatever your goal is. It can be a goal to purchase a new home, car, to get a new job, find a relationship that works… any number of things. Once you have a photo of it, tape it to a highly visible area of your workspace, on your computer monitor, your telephone or anywhere else you will see it often.
Then, the next time you find yourself getting distracted, look at your picture and ask yourself is what you are now doing bringing you closer to living inside your new home? Is it taking you closer to the relationship you dreamed of? Does it help to further you along the path you’ve outlined, or is it just wasting your time?
Something else that can blindside us is waiting until the time is "perfect" to do certain things, or make specific changes in our lives etc. You know what usually ends up happening? Absolutely nothing. I don’t know about you, but I think there are few things sadder than living a life of regret. I like what motivational speaker Les Brown has to say about getting everything perfect, "Jump and grow your wings on the way down."
Here are a few steps you can take to get you started "jumping"
Sounds like it would be easy to do doesn’t it? That’s what I thought too, until someone asked me to define mine and then to write it out in detail. That’s when it hit me that although I enjoyed many things, I was having lots of trouble listing even one of my passions.
When did I lose the knowledge, the awareness of what I loved most? To whom, or what had I given it? Those questions nagged at me and caused me to seriously rethink my life experiences.
Before releasing the desire to rediscover my true passion into the infinite substance which is the universe, I knew I needed to get quiet and prepare to listen to what my inner self had to share with me.
Still pondering over questions, I logged into one of my favorite forums. It’s filled with some of the most positive, prosperity minded, and community oriented folk I’ve ever met. You should get more information on how to get involved if you’re interested in growing your wealth the step-by-step, smart way like I am. Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think.
During a recent discussion, the topic of a societal ADD mentality came up. Unfortunately, the world is moving and changing at such an incredible pace, many of us have lost touch with ourselves, our passions or the why in our lives, and with each other.
Consider it a rebirth of the ME generation to some extent. We live in a world where it’s possible to have ten minute microwave meals, lunch on the go, dinner on the fly, twenty minute marriages or divorces, and it’s estimated that with the speed of television, many of us have been conditioned to have the attention span of two year olds.
It’s an age I like to call, instant gratification or walking papers notification. If it takes too long, or we don’t see immediate results, we’re off to the next best thing. I think that’s partially how I got lost.
My desire to succeed was so strong, I forgot to pay attention to myself as I journeyed through life, got married and started to raise a family. Somewhere in there, I completely lost my focus. I forgot to go back and re-examine why certain things were not working, why success was so elusive, not just in business but in many things.
I can see now that I was doing a lot of things very well. I just wasn’t passionate about them. That’s why it was so easy to become impatient, and totally overwhelmed trying to keep everything going at once.
I read once that the average length of driver patience after the light turns green is about two to three seconds. Then the horns start up. Try it yourself and see.
This lack of patience and focus can spill over into our lives constantly, keeping us stuck and wondering why we can’t achieve more, do more, create more. What we fail to realize is that without focused action towards what we desire, we will most likely continue to get the same type negative results.
Imagine for a moment, what you could do if you had more focus. What would your life look like? If you’re tired of being content with less, make a conscious decision to stop accepting it. Begin today to gain clarity of vision, dissect every facet of your life and see what has worked for you, and what has not. What were the things that brought joy as a child? What things do you need to embrace, and which do you need to release?
Then stand back and be amazed at the new life your thoughts create.
